Oral Surgery
Sedation might be used during oral surgery for anxious individuals.
Wisdom Teeth
Your wisdom teeth may occasionally not have enough room in your mouth, causing them to push against other teeth when they erupt or to erupt at an angle. The best course of action is to go see your dentist because you can experience pain or discomfort when this occurs. To check on the progress—or absence—of your wisdom teeth, the dentist will likely take an x-ray of your mouth. They can decide whether or not to take them out based on this, as well as how easy or tough it might be. Furthermore, sedation might be used during extractions.
Extractions
Since having a tooth pulled is equivalent to having surgery, you must take care of the region to hasten recovery and lower the chance of infection. Observations are as follows:
- Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, eating hot meals, and disturbing any blood clots that may have developed for the first 24 hours.
- After extraction, wait 24 hours before rinsing your mouth. After that, carefully rinse with warm, salty water—one glass of water, including half a teaspoon of salt, is sufficient.
Extractions
- To keep your mouth as clean as possible, brush your teeth as usual.
- Don't panic; this is very normal. You might feel some tiny fragments of bone working their way out of the socket.
- The first two to three days may be a little uncomfortable with some oedema. If necessary, take some over-the-counter pain relievers such aspirin, ibuprofen, or paracetamol.
- A blood clot that has broken down and left an empty hole in the gum may be the source of any pain you experience a few days after the tooth has been extracted. Your dentist needs to examine what is known as a "dry socket." Just return, and the dentist will pack the wound to relieve your pain.
- If not, a clean handkerchief would work just as well. Your dentist may have given you some gauze to apply on the region where the tooth has been removed.
- Use the gauze or hanky to carefully remove any blood clots from the area around the gap while sitting up.
- From the tongue side to the cheek side of the gap, place a clean pad over it and bite down firmly for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Remove the pad to see if the bleeding has stopped. If not, use a new pad and get in touch with your dentist.
